2010 - AGCS ALBUM PREVIEW PART THREE

In the final part of our album preview we’ll be covering any releases we for some reason missed in parts one and two but which we’re still looking forward to this year. Rest assured we’re not just mopping up the dregs. Well, maybe a little bit.

Anyway, without further ado here’s some dregs our final batch of albums to watch out for this year.

Liars - Sisterworld

This record is definitely not going in the “dregs” pile, as on the basis of their previous form and Decembers’ free download Scissor we’re expecting “Sisterworld” to be pretty awesome. The record is set to come out in a couple of months, and the band promise that it’s going to “explore the underground support systems created to deal with loss of self to society.” Sounds rad.

Good Shoes - No Hope, No Future

No one was expecting (or wanting) a revolution in Good Shoes sound and in the two tracks already previewed from their second album, The Way My Heart Beats and Under Control, it’s clear the band have stuck to what they do best - namely jerky punk pop and overwrought shouty vocals from frontman Rhys Jones. This one’s coming out pretty soon, on the 18th January, and so expect a review pretty soon.

Hot Club De Paris - EPs, Album

Hot Club De Paris look set to have a busy year. They’ve already recorded two EPs, with the first, entitled “With Days Like This As Cheap As Chewing Gum, Why Would Anyone Want To Work?”, out on 8th February. They also look set to release a full length record some time this year, and if it’s anywhere near as good as the excellent “Live At Dead Lake” then we’ll be very happy

Owen Pallett - Heartland

He’s had to drop the Final Fantasy moniker but hopefully Owen Pallett will be able to maintain the quality of his first two albums. I’ve only very recently got into Pallett’s solo work, and so I’m very pleased that his new record is only one day away. Apparently it’s a concept album about an ultra-violent farmer named Lewis from a fiction world called “Spectrum”, which sounds interesting to say the least. I’m saving my brilliant pun about Owen “broadening his Pallett” for the actual review, which I’ll be posting in the next couple of days. Look forward to that.

Hot Chip - One Life Stand

Hot Chip’s last album may not have been as consistent as their breakthrough “The Warning” but it was still a pretty great album. Nevertheless, in interviews the band have hinted that they have learnt from 2008’s “Made in the Dark”, and here’s hoping that the ten-track “One Life Stand” will make for a far more concise and coherent record. It’s out on 8th February so we don’t have to wait much longer to find out.

There’s bound to be a large number of releases we’ve missed off these lists, and hopefully there will be a few surprises along the way (Talking Heads reunion, anyone? No?), but hopefully these articles have given you some idea of what to look out for over the next few months and beyond. Check back soon for AGCS’ Ones To Watch, which unlike most of the “Sound of 2010”-style bullshit will feature bands we actually like, as opposed to bands we’ve just been told to.
