THIS WEEKS FREE DOWNLOADS - FUTUREHEADS, BLOOD RED SHOES

I’ve already blogged about Futureheads fourth album, due next year, but this week they’ve given us a free taste in the form of Struck Dumb. It sounds simultaneously like everything they’ve done before and something completely different. Predictably awesome riff but again, it sounds somehow different from previous Futureheads. It does have the awesome harmonies we’ve come to expect though, and a bit where the instruments crash to a halt and they sing acapella. Yeah, its an old trick but that doesn’t stop it being awesome.

Also offering free stuff are Blood Red Shoes, with the seven minute Colours Fade. Where many bands polish their sound for their second album, and chuck on some strings and trumpets, if anything the Brighton duo have gone too far in the other direction. This sounds rawer than anything on their début, and its hard to tell whether the song’s actually any good through the muddy production and barely decipherable vocals. Hopefully it’s a grower, but overall its a bit underwhelming.
