RELEASES ROUND-UP - KELE OKEREKE, LIARS

So, although there are no solid details yet it looks like Kele Okereke is going to be using the Bloc Party hiatus to release a solo album. Quite a few Bloc Party purists (and by that I mean twats who just want the band to release Silent Alarm again and again into infinity) have been disappointed by what they see as the band’s gradual transformation into “the Kele show”. To put it bluntly, Kele began to talk nonsense about how electronic music was better than indie and began to write more personal lyrics, and in the process ruined it for everyone.

Or not. Personally, I thought “Intimacy” was Bloc Party’s best album yet and I am very interested to see what Kele is going to sound like solo. One of Spank Rock has been working with the singer and, while it isn’t known whether this collaboration will result in a single or an album proper, my money’s on the latter. While he’s going to have a hard time beating Bloc Party’s last effort, it’s sure to be a very interesting record.

Similarly vague album details are emerging from the band Liars. I’m a huge fan of “They Were Wrong, So We Drowned”, and thought there was some good stuff on both their début and “Drum’s Not Dead”, but their last album, the self titled “Liars”, was pretty disappointing. I’m getting excited about this release though, if only because of the cryptic nature of it. On Monday the band posted a link to THESISTERWORLD.COM on their myspace, where three short video clips were available to watch. Obviously these clips provided no information at all, but the blogosphere began to speculate that an album was on the way.

Now prefixmag are reporting that the new album, which will be titled Sisterworld, is set for release in early 2010. According to a press release,

“Sisterworld is Liars’ own space, completely devoid of influence, somewhere remote from the false promises and discarded dreams amassed in LA. In it Liars explore the underground support systems created to deal with loss of self to society.”

Sounds Fun! Whatever Liars have in store, though, it’s bound to be entertaining. Lets hope they haven’t lost the knack for a great chorus they showed on Broken Witch. “blood. blood. Blood. Blood. BLOOD. BLOOD. BLOOD. BLOOD.CHOOOON!!
