LIVE REVIEW - LOS CAMPESINOS! At LEEDS COCKPIT

(Photo taken by Collinson - see more great pictures over on flickr)

Last night I saw Los Campesinos! at the Cockpit and they were pretty damn awesome. Battling through swine flu (which all of the band have managed to contract), they played just over an hour of fan favourites and new material set to appear on the forthcoming Romance Is Boring.

I managed to grab a setlist (written on a paper plate for some obscure reason) so here’s what they played with new songs in italics.

  • You’ll Need Those Fingers For Crossing
  • Death To Los Campesinos!
  • Miserabilia
  • This Is How You Spell “Ha Ha Ha…”
  • Romance is Boring
  • Ways To Make It Through The Wall
  • Letters From Me To Charlotte
  • My Year In Lists
  • Knee Deep At ATP
  • There Are Listed Buildings
  • Who Fell Asleep In
  • You! Me! Dancing!
  • We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed
  • The Sea Is A Good Place To Think About The Future

Sweet Dreams Sweet Cheeks

So, the crowd were pretty amazing - sing-alongs to pretty much every old song, Knee Deep At ATP and You! Me! Dancing! being particular highlights. Also, they played Miserabilia which is not only my favourite Los Campesinos! song but one of my favourite songs ever.

The new stuff all sounded great - Romance Is Boring in particular has a ridiculously catchy chorus which is still going around my head. The two already released new songs were even better live than on record, and even though it’s only been out a few weeks loads of people already knew the words to There Are Listed Buildings. All in all it was a pretty amazing set.

Special mention to the supports as well. I enjoyed Copy Haho but Sparky Deathcap (who also added extra instrumentation to Los Campesinos! set) was even better. You should definitely check him out here. Also have a look at his comic strip, entitled Tear Jerky.

I know this is the fifth or sixth time I’ve blogged about Los Campesinos! but really, they’re properly great. There’s only a few dates left on this tour but you can catch them supporting The Cribs in December or when they tour in February. They’re a band well worth seeing, so get on it.
