KERRY KATONA COKED-UP COVERS
Yes, it’s the hastily-renamed “kerry katona coked-up covers”, the feature that surreptitiously films you in the privacy of your own bathroom and then has the audacity to pass judgement on your life
This is, of course, a biting satire of the tabloid press, and clearly not a shameless attempt to get more hits from people googling the phrases “kerry katona” and “coke”. Like we even want the sort of people who google the phrases “kerry katona” and “coke” reading “kerry katona coked-up covers”. We don’t.
Modern Romance - TV on The Radio
Anyway, onto the actual business of “kerry katona coked-up covers”, and this week we’ve got a couple more cracking tracks. First up, it’s TV on the Radio taking on Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and more specifically Fever to Tell’s anthemic closer. Though I’m not as enamoured with Sitek and co. as the rest of the “blogosphere” seem to be, they do a great job here, with layered harmonies and and an insistent drumbeat making for an intriguing listen.
Atlantic City - The Hold Steady
The Hold Steady are a band whose Springsteen fanaticism is no secret, and so their decision to cover The Boss may seem at first uninspired. Be that as it may, the Hold Steady’s cover of Atlantic City is a success, with Craig Finn’s mostly spoken, storytelling delivery really suiting the song. The rest of the band play it mostly straight, although they make room for some saxophone which surprisingly doesn’t ruin the track.
Anyway, back next week with another name change. See you next Tuesday!
