2012 In Preview: Everything Everything

Over the next few days we’ll be looking at what’s to come in the year ahead, and picking out some of the releases we’re most looking forward to hearing over the coming months.

Despite touring for most of 2010 and 2011 it seems like Everything Everything aren’t prepared to rest on their laurels in 2012. But although a new song, Kimosabe, started appearing in their setlists around a year ago up until now there’s been little indicatation of just how far they’d got with their new record. Or at least that was the case until the band played Cardiff earlier this week, a show which saw them play seven new songs. With that in mind, surely they can’t be too far off releasing some new material?

AGCS made no secret of our obsession with “Man Alive” when it came out, putting it at number 2 on our best of 2010 list (sorry guys, but Owen Pallett is tough competition) and trying to catch the band live at every possible opportunity, so the sooner we can get our hands on a new record the better. If the above live clip is anything to go by it won’t be a disappointment, with Kimosabe bringing the bands R’n’B influences to the fore in a song that sounds like a Rihanna track, and more specifically Rude Boy. That’s no bad thing in our book, and as long as Everything Everything continue to make music as imaginative and exciting as this I can only see our love affair with the band growing stronger. “Man Alive” was a truly great debut, but we wouldn’t bet against them coming back with something even better.
