1-2-WTCH-IN-2011: BASTILLE - Flaws
I can’t find much about BASTILLE but I really like this song a lot, as far as I can tell it’s a one person project that is currently readying a live band for some gigging. More info when we get it. A nice pop song with harmonies and some good production, what more could you want? (Answer: nothing). Greg

1-2-WTCH-IN-2011: Cat's Eyes - I Knew It Was Over
I’m not a big fan of The Horrors but this new project from Faris has caught my attention, and this composition is really quite pretty. From the press release it seemed like the other (slightly more feminine) half of the duo would be doing the singing within the band, but on this track at least Faris takes the lead.  Check out the oragan foot pedal arpeggios at the end, sick! 1-2-WTCH-IN-2011: Fiction - Big Things
Here’s another one for 2011, Fiction with Big Things. I apologise to all these bands we’re now hyping that have existed and been writing songs for many years, but it’s easy for us lazy folks (read: me) to suggest you deserve to be listened to this year rather than pretend we’ve been following you since day one. Breton, GROUPLOVE and Fiction I like your music though and...

AGCS' TOP TEN ALBUMS OF THE YEAR: NUMBER ONE
Owen Pallett - Heartland Jed says: In my initial review of this record, all the way back in January, I said I wouldn’t be surprised if the album made it into quite a few end of year lists. Little did I know that nearly a whole year of album releases later it would be at the top of the AGCS list, with very few records coming close to matching “Heartland”. In truth, while on...

AGCS' TOP TEN ALBUMS OF THE YEAR: NUMBER TWO
Everything Everything - Man Alive Jed says: I find it hard to believe that less than half a year ago I had never heard of Everything Everything, considering the place they now hold in my heart (#1 last.fm most listened - it must be love). This was a whirlwind romance which began when I watched the band perform at Latitude Festival and peaked when I saw them twice in one week, performing the...

AGCS' TOP TEN ALBUMS OF THE YEAR: NUMBER THREE
Sufjan Stevens - The Age Of Adz The highly sophisticated points system we used to work out our albums of the year, while far from being perfect, did at least lead to a top three that we could agree on. These were the three albums that we tried to play to death but just wouldn’t die. Each one has reached the top of our list by being unlike anything else released this year, and certainly in...

AGCS' TOP TEN ALBUMS OF THE YEAR: NUMBER FOUR
Marina & The Diamonds - The Family Jewels Ahh, sweet sweet Marina. My pop princess of 2010, soundtrack to my Australian summer. It appears sadly that while I was singing the 8th part harmony to Oh No on a beach somewhere down-under, someone known only as Ellie Goulding was stealing Ms. Diamandis’ spotlight here in the UK. While Pop Music went stale in 2010 (I had to think very hard...

1-2-WTCH-IN-2011: Grouplove - Colours
Right about now everyone’s trying to tell you who to listen to in 2011, and following on from Breton I give you Grouplove. I love pop songs with harmonies and boy girl vocals, and just in time for the hot summer (wait) is début EP GROUPLOVE by Grouplove. The first ‘single’ / song with a video made for it is Colours, check it out below. GROUPLOVE ‘Colours’ from...

AGCS' TOP TEN ALBUMS OF THE YEAR: NUMBER FIVE
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy You’ve seen the 10.0 and the ***** reviews no doubt, but have you listened to it? Sadly due to Kanye’s ‘Don’t Give A Fuck’ attitude of late this album was under-promoted here in the UK, with a soft release of Power and an even softer release of the album itself. As a result it charted at a measly 16 in the top 40, and...
